Your roof is an important part of your home. It protects your home from the elements and keeps everyone inside safe from the outside world. Since it’s such an important part of your home, you’ll want to make sure you’re choosing the right roofing contractor to work on it. In order to choose the right roofing contractor, be sure to ask these five questions.

1. How Long Have You Been Working on Roofs?

You’ll want to hire a roofing contractor who’s experienced. Roofing contractors with years of experience likely know what they’re doing and have experienced a variety of roofing obstacles throughout their time working on roofs. Although there’s no standard number of years of experience that should determine if you hire a contractor, be sure it’s a number that you’re comfortable with.

2. Do You Have Proper Licensing, Certifications, and Insurance?

A professional roofing contractor will have the necessary licensing, certifications, and insurance coverages. If you ask this question and a roofing contractor says they don’t have one or more of these things, consider finding another contractor. Additionally, don’t take a contractor’s word, be sure to ask for proof of those things.

3. How Long Will My Project Take?

If you’ve been doing research, you should have a general idea of how long your roofing project should take. If a roofing contractor gives you a timeframe that’s significantly shorter or longer than it should be, that should raise a red flag. It’s also important to remember that faster is not always better.

4. What Will You Do in the Event of Inclement Weather?

Unfortunately, your roofing contractor cannot control the weather, but they can control how they react to it. A good roofing contractor will react quickly and have a strategy for what they will do if there is inclement weather during your project. It’s up to them to protect your home’s interior if there is inclement weather, so having a roofing contractor that knows what to do is important.

5. Who Exactly Will be Installing my Roof?

Some roofing companies use sub-contractors, while others have employees who will work on your roof. Since this is your home, you’ll want to know everyone who is involved in your project. That way, you can hold people accountable and ask questions to the right person whenever needed.
